“Cool Yule”
as seen in Yankee Magazine
For 10 days each December, Kennebunkport, Maine, is the happiest place in New England.
This holiday season, make travel a cinch-
Visit a place where there’s nary a Grinch.
You won’t find one frown pulling lips down,
Just frost-friendly faces, saying “Welcome to town.”
In Kennebunkport just know, nobody’s rude,
Because everyone loves Christmas Prelude.
In a town that relies on all things that float,
Even Santa (the fat one) arrives on a boat.
There are teas and some cookies and chowder, of course –
Enough of this food to choke a large horse.
Craft fairs and home tours spice up the party.
And carols are sung by voices so hardy.
There is much going on and much of it free,
Including a look at the lobster-trap tree.
Trolleys go through the stunning Maine woods,
And merchants on streets kindly offer their goods.
So gather the kids, the cat, and the dog,
And come to this town to see its Yule log.
Come for the music, come for the plays,
Come for not one, but several fine days.
To other good villages we hate to be rude,
But there is one and one only Christmas Prelude.
